Knowledge (2024)

“ Do you have the knowledge within you then, my dull friend? ”
― Misérables

Prior to Verse 2, if one wanted to make a specific build, then it would be entirely up to luck on whether or not they would be able to obtain this build-- aside from using methods to narrow down Whisper cards and using Aces to clear up any unwanted Talent cards. This often led to a round of wipes until the player (now tired and exhausted) eventually obtained their desired build- or at least, an image of it.

With the advent of Verse 2, these acts are left in the past. One can now thoroughly customize and change up their build- talents, mantras, undo burns, and more using the many Deep Shrines around the overworld, and can even gain as many bell rerolls as one desires through the fabled Misérables so long as they have sufficient Knowledge.

Overview[]

Knowledge is a new feature introduced in the Verse 2 update.

Knowledge is a special in-game currency that can be used to engage in a deals with various Deep Shrines and the deity known as Misérables. Its function serves similar to Notes in the sense that you can purchase various things to help benefit your character in specific ways; however, Knowledge-related services reap much higher benefits for the player, such as gaining the ability to reroll your bell again-- at the cost of a higher degree of involvement for obtainment of the currency itself.

Ways of Obtaining Knowledge[]

Achieving milestones and completing certain quests will award the player with Knowledge.

  • Purchasing Starting Knowledge (Echo Upgrade), awarding 1 Knowledge per Upgrade level, with the maximum being 5 Knowledge. The currency is granted to every slot upon creation of a new character. It won't be given to already-existing characters.
  • Gaining Power, awarding 1 Knowledge per Power level, with the maximum being 19 Knowledge.
  • Finishing Beiruul's quest on Meteor Isle, awarding 2 Knowledge when returning to her after the quest is complete.
  • Supplying the Diver Expedition, awarding 2 Knowledge after turning in the supplies.
  • Collecting Kyrsan Medallions and handing them into Klaris Llfiend at a rate of 5 Medallions for 5 Knowledge after beating Scion of Ethiron and escaping New Kyrsa. This can be repeated as long as you have the medallions to afford it. Klaris may refuse your Medallions as she will not talk to you if you are below Power 15.
  • Finishing Mendacia's quest in Layer 2 Floor 1, awarding 2 Knowledge after talking to her in Layer 2 Floor 2 (Denying quest also give you knowledge though)
  • Catching Golden Fish, awarding 1 Knowledge per catch, maximum being 5 catches.
  • Killing Primadon for the first time, awarding 2 Knowledge.
    • Killing Primadon while having dealt at least 8000 damage (20% of his HP). This rewards 1 Knowledge and can be repeated.
  • Killing The Ferryman for the first time, awarding 2 Knowledge after taking the exit portal.
    • Talking to The Ferryman in Spring after killing him. This rewards 1 Knowledge and can be repeated.
  • Killing Chaser, Scholar of the Burning Blood for the first time, awarding 2 Knowledge.
    • Killing Chaser, Scholar of the Burning Blood while having dealt at least 35% of his HP. This rewards 1 Knowledge and can be repeated.
  • Killing the Duke of Erisia for the first time, awarding 2 Knowledge once teleported out of the dungeon.
  • Killing Scion of Ethiron for the first time, awarding 2 Knowledge.
  • Killing Dread Serpent for the first time, awarding 2 Knowledge.
  • Killing the following monsters for the first time, awarding 1 Knowledge each:
  • Using the Moonseye Tome relic, which grants 99 knowledge upon using it for the first time and 20 on future uses.
  • Completing waves in The Diluvian Mechanism, which gives around 20 Knowledge in total when completing through wave 50.

Assuming no repeatable methods (No Klaris and repeatable bosses knowledge only done once), the maximum obtainable knowledge is 58.

The limit of on-hand Knowledge a player can have is 100. The currency is bound to a slot and is lost upon wipe.

A checklist can be found here.

Usage of Knowledge and Specifics[]

As stated at the beginning of this page, Knowledge can be used to bargain with powerful objects and beings.

  • Each transaction is conducted via dialogue option, with Knowledge being consumed instantly after the deal is done without any warning message or notice. Before making a deal, it's advised that you are absolutely ready to make the desired exchange- and go slowly through the dialogue, because most times, there is no going back once the deal is made (such as in the case with Shrine of Order). Your Knowledge will be lost no matter what, leaving you to have to get some more. Engaging in a deal with Deep Shrines (EXCLUDING Shrine of Order, Shrine of Conceit, and Shrine of Division-- read below), uses 5 Knowledge per deal. (4 knowledge for Ganymedes)
  • Engaging in a deal with Shrine of Order, uses 10 Knowledge. After making a deal with the Shrine of Order, whatever was done to your build CANNOT be undone. Make sure you are absolutely ready to make the deal before you commit.
  • Engaging in a deal with Shrine of Conceit, uses 1 Knowledge.
  • Engaging in a deal with Shrine of Division, uses 10 knowledge.
  • Purchasing Clarity from Misérables, uses 15 Knowledge.
  • Knowledge functions similarly to Insight, from Rogue Lineage and Tales from the Valley, which in turn are references to Insight from Bloodborne.
  • Obtaining Knowledge through normal means is inefficient, and thus not recommended for grinding (unless you are in need of emergency Knowledge before using Shrine of Order).
  • Power-gained Knowledge will be enough to make a deal with the Shrine of Order at Power 10.
  • Ganymedes have a special racial bonus that make Deep Shrines cost one less Knowledge point to make a deal with.
  • An icon identical to Knowledge was in the game during the early beta. Its purpose was unknown.
  • Knowledge is not simply just knowing about things; it is specifically "forbidden knowledge" as described by Klaris, which explains why it is valuable enough to be traded with other beings.
    • As such, the Moonseye Tome likely floods the user's mind with aforementioned forbidden knowledge. As the cacophony and madness of the voices decreases, so too does the Knowledge granted by the tome.
