Tech Website iFixit Breaks Open Apple's Latest Gadget to Reveal Its "Hidden Secret"

iFixit, the tech repair and upgrade website has claimed that the Apple Watch is strictly a short to medium option and users will not be able to continually upgrade their device. CEO Kyle Wiens is a long term critic of Apple’s obstructive policies vis-a-vis third parties fixing and/or altering iOS devices. His company provides free online repair guides for a huge range of electronic devices. iFixit wasted no time in getting its hands on the Apple Watch when it was released and stripped it down to its bare bones for an inside-out evaluation. iFixit’s verdict: the “overall device construction limits further repair options”.

“The S1 SiP [internal system in package] is encased in resin, and is further held in place by a mess of glue and soldered ribbon connectors. In short, basic component replacements look nearly impossible.” iFixit believes the Apple Watch has intentional obsolescence built into it, as over time it will become technologically redundant as faster processors come on the market and apps will only be supported by the newest models. This strategy is called ‘planned obsolescence‘ and Apple has been accused of employing it for many years.
