I want to upgrade my Apple watch 2 to watch 6, but don't know which strap will work best for swimming. Need something snug enough to track HR in the water. I went through 4 straps with Watch 2, nothing was reliable. The sport loop was the least bad but after 6-7 months it would stretch out to the point of not even staying closed and I'd have to buy a new one. Would the Solo Loop or Braided Solo Loop work better? I swim about an hour a day.

- How to use apple watch for winter open water swimmingI tried to use my watch for a Swimrun yesterday and in the swim section it just paused. I had my watch on my wrist over neoprene wetsuit so I guess it was because it couldn’t detect heart rate. However this is a problem as when it gets colder I will have gloves on too and want to see my watch to check how long and how far in the water. Is there a setting on the watch that will do this? Last winter I had a Garmin watch and it was very happy recording a swim whilst outside my wetsuit. Thanks 6311
- I swim in place, how can I best track it using my watch?I have the Apple Watch 4, and I use tethered swim ropes to swim in place. I don't see my heart rate tracked and it asks me how far my laps are. Anyone have an idea how best to track my calorie burn using this exercise method? thanks in advance 1531

Hey SBckg,
It sounds like you have a question about choosing a band for your Apple Watch.
The Solo Loop and Braided Solo Loop would both be suitable for water use, so you can choose whichever you prefer. The only bands currently that should not be exposed to liquids are the stainless steel and leather bands.
Here's some guidance for swimming with your Apple Watch, when you receive it: Swim with your Apple Watch - Apple Support.
Have a great day!

Terry, do you have the braided solo loop or the solid one? I spoke with an Apple advisor who recommended the solid one for swimming. She couldn't answer what my options were if it didn't work reliably though. Put me on hold for half an hour and I finally hung up. Did you keep your strap or return it? Was there any problem exchanging it?
I didn't mean to flag this as 'solved', but can't figure out how to change that.

Thanks, Karina. That's helpful to know the two bands are OK in water, but I would also like to know how reliable they will be in terms of getting the watch to measure HR during swim workouts. I've been using the watch for over 3 years to track my swims and the results have been hit or miss, with many emails back and forth with Apple, many trips to the Genius Bar. The problem apparently has been keeping the watch in close enough contact with the blood vessel(s) on the back of my wrist while I'm swimming. For the first year I was using the default strap, tightening it as much as possible but mostly getting largely blank HR graphs at the end of an hour's swim. The velcro sports loop worked much better, as it was easier to cinch up by small amounts, but it stretched out with use and after 6-7 months would no longer stay fastened at all. I went through two of those but got tired of buying a new one twice a year. The one I'm using now is the Nike, which has a greater number of fastening positions. Sometimes it works great, but sometimes I'll get half an hour of no HR readings then half an hour of steady readings, or maybe only half a dozen spot readings over an hour's swim. I have to cinch it uncomfortable tight to get it to work at all in the water. For walking, running, biking it works fine on a looser setting. So my real question is, will either of these new bands give me reliable HR readings while swimming without being so tight as to be uncomfortable the rest of the time? This is important since they are not adjustable, and apparently you cannot switch them out with another strap. Will they stretch out with use? I'm not going to spend that much money on a watch that I have to replace if there's a problem with the strap, or if I need one size for swimming and another for comfortable rest-of-the-day use. Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me!

I've had my 6 for ten days and the sport solo loop is already stretching from swimming daily. Heat rate is mostly being recorded though. Considering returning it!
