I just read on the internet that the theory where we get the battery completely die, and then charge it 100% is not correct, as that decreases battery life. In turn i have heard that it should be charged when at 20% ish and then not up to 100% so maybe 99%. Is this true, or what should i do? Confused 🙂
iPod touch, iOS 5

Again, with a lithium-based battery, it's best to charge it in small intervals. There is no benefit to deliberately letting it discharge to 20% of capacity.
You're stressing too much about this. Just charge it as often as is practical and don't worry about how far down it's drained. Just don't deliberately let it discharge completely any more often than every couple of months.
Regards.

No not completely gone but to about ~20%. Charge it up to 50% when your just around in your house or you know that you'll have access to a charger. Charge to 100% when needed or once a month. Tips of battery saving, effeciency, and charging can be found here. http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipods.html

Ok from now on i'll start charging at 20% when it shows red battery icon, but is it still ok if i charge to 100% from their, save me having to charge it all time, or is that bad?
However when i drained it completely today i got 9 hours usage so i'm thinking maybe that's good?

It really does not make much difference. The circuits in the iPod will shutdown the iPod before battery damage (cell reversal) caused by fully draining the battery.

But which would give better battery life? Also charging it to 100% isn't a problem right? - Why have people changed their stance on letting it die?

Lithium-based batteries do not have the "memory effect" that NiCAD and NiMH batteries do, so it is not advised to repeatedly discharge the device, even to 20%. Apple advises discharging the iPod to the point where it shuts off every couple of months to calibrate the battery monitor, but I've seen even that necessity disputed by knowledgeable engineers. Charge your iPod as often as convenient, and it's fine to charge it to 100%. Charging only to 50% serves no purpose I know of. Absolutely do not deliberately discharge it more than once every couple of months, though.
Regards.

People who know about battery technology have not changed their stance. See my comments below.

So i dont understand why i shouldn't let it go to even 20%? Surely charging it before 20% means charging it more and that will decrease battery life?

i usually just let it go to 5-10% than charge it to 100% just dont let it die thats bad
I do let it discharge once every 2 months. just dont let it discharge often. let it discharge every 2-3months
