Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. Tap My Watch, go to Accessibility > RTT, then tap Default Replies. Tap “Add reply,” enter your reply, then tap Done.

Try resetting your watch by pressing the crown and side button together until you see the Apple logo, then release both. Also, in your Apple Watch App scroll down to Messages and make sure all of the settings are as you want them, especially check Default Replies..... make sure "Smart Replies" is ON.

Reply to a message on Apple Watch

Send a smart reply: Scroll to see a list of suggested phrases that you can use—just tap one to send it. To add your own phrase, open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, tap My Watch, go to Mail > Default Replies, then tap Add reply.

On watchOS 8 and later, the keyboard is active by default. Tap a text field to bring up the keyboard. If Scribble is active when you tap a text field, swipe up and tap one of the keyboard language options. On older Apple Watches, download a third-party app like FlickType or WatchKey.

In the Messages app on Apple Watch, read incoming text messages, then reply using dictation, Scribble, emoji, or a prepared response; type a reply using the QWERTY and QuickPath keyboard (on supported models only, not available in all languages); or switch to your iPhone to type a response.

Edit or Remove Custom Message Responses

Head back to Messages > Default Replies in the Watch app. To edit a response, select it. Then, use the keyboard that appears to make your change and tap Done. To delete a response, tap Edit > the minus sign in red on the left of the reply > Delete.

Use Scribble: Use your finger to write your message. To edit your message, turn the Digital Crown to move the cursor into position, then make your edit. To use Scribble on Apple Watch models that support the QWERTY and QuickPath keyboard, swipe up from the bottom of the screen, then tap Scribble.

We recommend to open Control Center on the Apple Watch to verify that Do Not Disturb or Airplane Mode is off. Reply to a text

On your watch, scroll down to the notification that you want to reply to. Speak the message that you want to send. On some watches, you can also type, send an emoji or scroll down for pre-written messages.

Open the Phone app on your Apple Watch. Tap Contacts, then turn the Digital Crown to scroll. Tap the contact you want to call, then tap the phone button. Tap FaceTime Audio to start a FaceTime audio call, or tap a phone number.

If you go to any part of an Apple Watch app that offers text input—searching for apps in the App Store, writing a text in Messages, looking for a podcast in Podcasts, etc. —a notification pops up on your iPhone offering to let you use the iPhone to type into the Watch app.

Use Scribble to Enter Text

With Scribble, all you need to do is draw the letter or number you want to type on the tiny screen with one finger. Your Apple Watch will recognize it and type the correct entry when you lift your finger or finish drawing the letter.
