Pulse oximeter for heart rate and blood oxygen level for Covid patients – Oldwood Surgery & Battle Health Centre (2024)

If you have tested positive for Covid-19 and are in a high risk category, your GP may give you a Pulse Oximeter.

A pulse oximeter helps you monitor how fast your heart is beating and the level of oxygen in your blood.

Blood oxygen level is the most accurate way of keeping an eye on your progress with COVID-19. An ideal blood oxygen level is between 95% and 99%. An ideal heart rate is between 50 and 90 beats per minute (bpm).

You will need to alert your doctor or 111 if it drops below 95% and your heart rate goes above 100.

Read the Patient Leaflet for Pulse Oximeter for heart rate and blood oxygen level for Covid patients for instructions and the diary you need to complete.

There is a new Covid Oximetry@Home Service which your GP may refer you to. They will monitor you three times a day. If your GP has referred you to this service, please read this important Covid Oximetry@Home leaflet which gives more details about the service and what you need to do.
