Here's what to avoid:

Do not wax, tweeze, or use depilatories during your series of laser hair removal. Avoid sun exposure for 4 weeks prior to treatment and use SPF 30 daily to ensure coverage against UVA and UVB rays. Do not use self-tanning products for 1-2 weeks prior and/or post treatment. least 2-3 days prior to treatment.

For 24 -48 hours after the treatment, please avoid excessive sweating, hot showers, shaving, waxing, and plucking the treatment area. For the next 5 days after the treatment, please liberally apply Skinstitut™ Laser Aid both morning and evening or as many times as your skin feels sensitive.

For the first few hours, you might even feel like you have a mild sunburn. Swelling and redness should subside within 1-3 days. During this time, it's safe to use aloe vera or topical cooling creams to reduce discomfort. Your hair will not fall out immediately during treatment, but slowly over the following few weeks.

Shave Before Treatment

You should shave within 24 hours of your scheduled laser appointment. Your laser technician cannot treat areas that have hair above the skin. You cannot even receive treatment if there is rough stubble because this may create too much heat for the pigment of your skin.

Avoid hot baths and hot showers for 48 hours. Avoid anything that involves chlorine (e.g. swimming) for 48 hours. Avoid make-up on the treated area for at least 48 hours. Avoid the application of perfumed products or bleaching creams for 48 hours.

In order to get the most out of your treatment, it is important that you don't miss a treatment, you avoid tweezing or waxing any of the hairs that are undergoing laser hair removal, you shave the day before a treatment, and you limit your sun exposure both before and during treatments.

After shedding finishes, you might experience little black dots still “stuck” in the skin. These are commonly referred to as “pepperspots” and will shed eventually, but might take a bit longer. Exfoliate to help those out as well.

Apply cool compresses

Wet a clean, soft washcloth with cool water and place it on the treated area for several minutes at a time. You can also use an ice pack wrapped in a paper towel. This method helps to reduce temporary swelling and pain after your laser hair removal treatment.

Because laser treatments are only able to target hair follicles that are in their anagen phase, there will be a few remaining follicles that have yet to “wake up” and grow hair in the next few weeks, so don't be surprised to see some minor regrowth after your initial treatment.

Using scissors, trim off all long hairs before going in with a razor. Ensure your bikini area is wet. We don't advise shaving the area while it's dry. Don't be in a rush to finish.

Avoid caffeine.

This means the laser treatment could be potentially painful if you have been taking caffeine beforehand. It is also more challenging to stay still during the procedure, making the laser technician's job even harder. Avoid taking caffeine at least for 24 hours before the treatment.

Avoid alcohol, caffeine, cigarettes, high-sodium foods, high sugar foods, Niacin supplements, refined carbohydrates, and spicy foods for 48 hours after treatment.

Avoid exposing skin to UV light (sunlight or sunbeds) or self-tan for at least 2 weeks after treatment. This is to minimise darkening of the skin (hyperpigmentation). Avoid heat treatments such as spas, steam rooms and saunas for 7 days. Avoid excessive scrubbing or applying pressure to the skin for 4-5 days.

Preparing For Your Laser Skin Tightening Treatment

If there is excessive hair in the treatment area, we recommend shaving the area prior to treatment. Avoid sun exposure to the treatment area, and do not use UV tanning beds at all for two weeks before treatment.

You can take a shower after laser hair removal, but it is recommended to use cool water for the first few showers. It is best to avoid hot water, hot tubs, and saunas for at least 48 hours after the treatment. You should wait at least 6-8 hours after the session before taking a shower.
