*Jaw Drops* Awooga, also known as the Awooga Copypasta, refers to a series of copypasta featuring various verbal representations of the noise made when excited cartoon characters see attractive women. The phrase is inspired by a scene from Tex Avery's Red Hot Riding Hood. As the initial copypasta spread and different variations began to appear, such as the viral Gamer Girl Copypasta, they also became known through similar recurring parts such as *Tongue Rolls Out* and Hummina Hummina.

Origin

Red Hot Riding Hood is an animated cartoon by Tex Avery, initially released on May 8th, 1943. The story is a twist on the classic tale of Red Riding Hood where Little Red Riding Hood is an attractive performer in a Hollywood nightclub and the Big Bad Wolf a Hollywood swinger. During the short, Red performs onstage and the wolf goes mad with desire (shown below). The cartoon is one of Avery's most popular cartoons, inspiring several of his own "sequel" shorts as well as influencing other cartoons and feature films for years afterward.^[1]

On February 9th, 2016, an image was posted on r/cringepics^[2] showing a screenshot of a Facebook reply from an unknown user on a photo showing 3 women (shown below). However, the screenshot reads the post was made in September of an unknown year, meaning it predates the post. While the Reddit post only managed to gather a score of 17 points over the next 4 years, the associated Imgur upload^[3] managed to gather over 1.7 million views in that same time span.

Precursor: "Hummina" & "Awooga"

As separate single reactions, both Hummina and Awooga predate the copypastas. Posts using "Hummina" can be traced back on 4chan archives up to April 30th, 2010.^[4] Around the same time, a description for "Awooga" was first created on Urban Dictionary on May 26th, 2010.^[8] The usage of these and related terms were most likely inspired by cartoons such as those by Tex Avery, and their popularity has resulted in the creation of the copypastas.

Spread

Initial spread of the copypasta took place mostly on 4chan's /tv/ board. These reactions first started appearing late November to early December 2018 (shown below left), including a thread posted on December 2nd where the Imgur post was shared.^[5] Following this, 4chan archives show the phrase being posted a couple more times later that month. It wasn't until April 1st, 2019, when a longer version was posted on the board 6 times that day (shown below, right); each in reply to threads about attractive actresses, which suggests it was done as a troll tactic.^[6] Following this, the copypasta started to grow more frequently used on the board with numerous posts appearing that same month.

Over the following months, the copypasta spread to other websites as well, such as the most notable example being shared on r/copypasta^[9] on June 14th which gathered over 6,200 votes. The spread eventually resulted in the creation of different variations as well. On November 4th, the Twitter account of Youtuber CallMeCarson posted a version^[7] which gathered over 98,000 likes over the next 10 months. This resulted in the copypasta being mentioned multiple times in his stream on November 10th (shown below, right, at 8:54 and 16:30).

Gamer Girl Copypasta Variant / A Girl and A Gamer

A slightly altered version known as the "Gamer Girl Copypasta" emerged in 2019 with an additional intro. On June 13th, 2019, Redditor Branchie123 posted the full text to the /r/copypasta^[10] subreddit, receiving over 6,500 upvotes and 270 comments in four years (seen below).

Booba

Booba refers to a series of reaction images, textual reactions and fan art and other memes revolving around the word "booba" and images of various characters cartoonishly popping their eyes in desire. Closely associated with Awooga! and Hornyposting and originating from a 4chan post, the meme gained popularity in late September 2020 following a viral tweet.
