Double Majors and Dual Degrees (2024)

  • Mathematics and Actuarial Science Double Major

Double Major/Dual Degree Program Outside of Math Department

Students wishing to add a Math/Actuarial Science double major or dual degree should complete the Math Major Information Session. After completing this session, students will be able to declaretheir double major or dual degree.

Double Major:

Students earning a double major would complete the requirements for two majors while completing one baccalaureate degree.Students pursuing a double major should remember:

  • Students must complete all coursework in both majors. Additional courses may be required if the majors share multiple course requirements.
  • Students will receiveone diplomaat graduation.
  • Students must complete both majors before graduating.

Dual Degree:

Students earning a dual program would complete the requirements for two distinct degrees with different major and GE requirements.Students pursuing a dual program should remember:

  • Apetition must be filedand approved to graduate with two degrees. (See your academic advisor for more details.)
  • Studentsmay not overlap any courseworkbetween the two majors.
    • This does not pertain to the GE requirements that most colleges share already, just courses specifically used in the majors.
  • 151 hours are required for graduation, of which 57 must be upper division hours.
  • Students will receivetwo diplomasat graduation -- one for each degree.
  • Students may earn the two degrees at one time, or separately.
