Apple Watch Users Report 'Ghost Touch' Glitch (2024)

Does your Apple Watch Ultra 2 or Series 9 have a mind of its own? If you've noticed "ghost touches" on your smartwatch, Apple is reportedly aware of the issue and working on a fix.

Some users are reporting that their watches are doing things even if no one touches them. In an internal memo seen by MacRumors, Apple refers to the problem as "false touches" and acknowledges that the issue can cause the watch to do all sorts of things, such as starting a phone call unintentionally and preventing users from entering the device's passcode.

Apple instructs Authorized Service Providers to hold off on physical repairs while Apple investigates the issue.

Cupertino also recommends keeping the watches up-to-date, which may point to a software issue. Until then, you can try force-restarting the watches by pressing and holding the Digital Crown and side button at the same time until the Apple logo appears.

Noted leaker Stella - Fudge also tweeted: "We've been told not to replace the watch for this issue but instead to tell you to wait for a software update to address it soon."

Ghost touches aren't a new issue for Apple Watches. Users on r/AppleWatch have reported the issue on prior generations of the product, including the Series 3 and the Series 2.
