After announcing new Apple Watches, Apple has stopped selling 3 older Watch models, including the classic Series 3 (3)

At their September "Far Out" event, Apple unveiled three new versions of the Apple Watch: The mid-range Apple Watch Series 8, the budget Apple Watch SE (2nd generation), and the high-end Apple Watch Ultra.

But every time Apple releases a new version of one of their products, they stop selling some older models. It's the same this year, as Apple has discontinued three different versions of the Apple Watch.

All the Apple Watch models being discontinued

Following the Far Out event, Apple has taken these three Apple Watch models off of its website masthead:

  • Apple Watch Series 3, released in 2017
  • Apple Watch SE (1st generation), released in 2020
  • Apple Watch Series 7, released in 2021

There's no way to buy these Apple Watch models from Apple anymore in a new condition. (Several versions of the Series 7, however, are currently available through Apple's website as certified refurbished products.) You can still buy these three models from third-party sellers like Best Buy, but since Apple isn't manufacturing them anymore, they'll eventually leave those shelves too.

This means that the only Apple Watches that Apple sells from their website in a new condition are the ones they just announced:

They also sell specialized Nike and Hermès watches, which are just regular Series 8 models with exclusive wristbands and watch faces.

If you own a discontinued Apple Watch, you might still get updates

Although the Apple Watch Series 7 and SE (1st generation) are discontinued, they're still supported. This means they'll keep receiving new versions of watchOS for at least a couple more years.

The exception to this is the Apple Watch Series 3. Apple kept selling the Series 3 for way longer than they usually do, and the result is that the Series 3 is now abruptly discontinued and unsupported.

You can still bring the Series 3 into Apple for repairs, but it can't update to the new watchOS 9 or anything after that.

Correction: September 13, 2022 —An earlier version of this article stated that three older Apple Watch models were no longer available for sale through Apple's website. We've clarified that these models are no longer for sale in a new condition, as one of the models listed is available through Apple's website as a certified refurbished product.
